Consultation
A consultation is just that. A patient seeks a single visit with a doctor seeking an opinion about a problem. Treatment options are discussed but the patient decides whether or not to pursue treatment.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a general name for a host of ‘talk therapies’ including psychodynamic therapy, psychoanalysis, cognitive therapy.
Psychopharmacology
Psychopharmacology is the use of medications that affect the nervous system and by extension mood, perception and concentration. Doctors can use medications to treat depression, anxiety, psychosis (distortions in a person’s ability to perceive reality) and addictions.
Some patients are best served by long acting depot medications. Dr. Sanders offers injection treatment of the follwing medications: Risperdal Consta, Vivitrol (Naltrexone), Haloperidol and Fluphenazine Decanoate.
addiction treatment
Addiction is the harmful use of medications or drugs that a person has great difficulty controlling and that has deleterious effects on his or her life. For example an addiction to alcohol or alcoholism is the continued use of harmful amounts of alcohol despite grave effects on a persons life and health.
Modern medicine has medical and behavioral treatments that can help a person break free of life-destroying addictions. These treatments include buprenorphine treatment for opioid dependence and naltrexone, disulfiram and acamprosate for alcohol dependence. There are other treatments for benzodiazepine, cocaine and stimulant addictions.
